Questions to Buddy: Pedro Dubislav

Pedro became a coach when he discovered how much energy guiding others gave him during a volunteer job. Together with Buddy, he helps people gain insight into who they are and what drives them.

Why are you good at what you do?
My strength lies in making contact ‘below the waterline’, as I call it. Usually there is something behind the answers people give. By listening carefully and asking sharp questions, I try to find out what is hidden under the surface. It is important to make yourself vulnerable. Your own mask also has to come off. Then the other person will open up. And then you can find the right direction together and get started with the mission, work and life of the coachee.

What is the most important lesson you give your coachees?

To experience more happiness at work, it is important to do work that suits you and that makes you happy. I experienced that myself when I started working as a volunteer. I did something I liked and that was meaningful. So much fun and meaningful that I made it my job. When things come together, you get into a flow and work is no longer a struggle. Then it goes effortlessly and you get energy. And that, in turn, has a positive effect on your work-life balance. You feel good about yourself, which makes everything easier.

Incidentally, it is an interaction. That is why it is important to achieve that balance in several areas. Thus, it helps to be fit and healthy. I like to exercise, do yoga and spend a lot of time in nature. Eating healthy and not drinking too much has a positive effect. To stay mentally healthy, I like to meditate. And I often do something small with my family or friends. Things that make you feel good.

What do you hope to achieve with Buddy?

What appeals to me about Buddy is the accessibility. As a coachee, you can easily and quickly get started with a clear and practical approach. On an individual level, I want to help people gain insight into who they are and what drives them. And thus give substance to a more meaningful life. I want to turn them ‘on’, as it were. By that I mean that I help them to make conscious choices, based on self-insight. If you know who you are and what you stand for, it becomes easier to choose well.
