Questions for Buddy – Monique

Monique loves people. With their surprising talents, sometimes special activities and their own perspectives. She started studying psychology to better understand human behavior. And because she wanted to do a study with which she could make a social contribution.
And, do you make a social contribution?
I think so. I am concerned with the question of how to set up an organization or team in such a way that people can do what they are there for without too much noise. And to be able to stay in control. I try to make people and organizations more vital by strengthening managers and employees in their personal development, a healthy work-life balance and the sustainable use of their talent and ambition. The great thing about working at Buddy is that you can achieve a lot in relatively short processes.
How do you do that?
By asking the right questions and paying attention to needs, ambitions and beliefs. You don’t have to want to make big steps right away. Sometimes keeping something small and giving time can be a good way to deal with things.
I like to take a practical approach. Try to strengthen people by providing them with clear insights and concrete tools. I am accessible, involved and goal-oriented and work with scientifically based models. I can quickly make good contact, help organize and get to the heart of the question together. After each conversation I make a short report. This includes the learning objectives that we regularly test together. In the volatile and busy world we live in, my coachees help them to read back their experiences. And as a coach, it helps me to gain deeper insight into what in essence (still) needs attention.
“A good coach is receptive and doesn’t have too many opinions.”
How do you recognize a good coach?
A good coach is receptive and does not have too many opinions. You have to be able to approach someone without advantage, listen in a focused way and think along with someone without taking over the question. Finally, a coach must continue to develop himself. I myself do this by occasionally doing an in-depth training, being keen on reflection and attending meetings with my intervision group.
Oh yes, a good coach also dares to refer.
What are the conditions for a happy working life?
To highlight one condition: it helps to have sufficient nurturing social relationships. Recent research confirms that this aspect is an important predictor of good mental health and a successful career. Both inside and outside your work, it helps to have a good and accessible network. With people who each know you in their own way, who can think along with you and who can spar with you. And if your own network needs some additions, you can call in Buddy.
